0-2 Little Stars room
In our baby room we have highly experienced staff whose priority is to follow the home routine of each baby as closely as possible. There is a spacious playroom area with a separate sensory room for the children to play and explore.
A separate sleep room with cots and buggies is a quiet and calming place for babies to listen to music and have a nap. We provide a variety of stimulating activities in a caring and friendly environment in order to promote your baby’s all round development. We have double and triple buggies so your child can be out in the community daily. All planning will be displayed on the room wall for you to view and see what activities and development your child will be participating in this week.
Parents are required to supply nappies and milk to ensure continuity between home and nursery. We are a breast-feeding friendly nursery and will support mothers returning to work and still wishing to breast-feed. Staff are trained in the storage and use of breast milk and we welcome you visiting to feed during the day where possible.
Here at Heron House we encourage that when your baby is between 22-24 months, and once they have found their feet, we would hope to advance them to the Busy Bee playroom. This would take place after discussions with yourself.
Busy Bees 2-3 room
Children in the Busy Bee room are under the supervision of qualified and experienced staff. A range of quality toys and activities are provided for the continued development of your child. The period in the Busy Bees provides a smooth transition to the 3-5 classroom by adopting a more challenging and varied approach to the day. This will include such activities as painting, sand and water play, music, physical activities and much more. This may sound a little complicated for young children but it is possible for 2 year olds to play with sand and water or create a mini masterpiece with paint … and love it!
A communication diary is used to pass information to and from home about your child’s day.
Little Scholars 3-5 rooms
Heron House is recognised as a 3-5 year old centre by the Education Department. In the 3-5 room children will follow the Curriculum for Excellence and will learn to become Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors.
We pride ourselves on ensuring that when children leave the nursery to move on to school they do so confidently and independently, whilst taking with them the enjoyment of learning, pride in their achievements and great friendships. We would strive for your child to be able to have the following skills when leaving the nursery: recognising and writing their own name, demonstrating good observation skills, showing preliminary reading skills, good pencil control, showing creative skills and knowledge of numbers.
We have two out-of-school care rooms in which we have children before school, after school and during the holidays. This is a facility which is in high demand and places are given first to siblings of our nursery children. Only if there are spaces left, will they then be offered to other non-nursery families.
